An Amazon review from a reader:

*****

“This is a truly exceptional book, a tour de force, which captures your attention from page 1 and holds it right through to the end. Full of memorable, possibly unforgettable characters, the pace leaving one breathless and the amount of research into events spanning Europe and the Middle East, quite remarkable. Impossible to guess some outcomes, bereft at other developments and awe at the sheer chutzpah demonstrated in aspects of fighting the Nazi regime. There are insights into the development of the state of Israel plus an eye opener, for me, as to the actions of the British in dealing with the war – torn souls attempting to reach the new state soon after the end of the war. None of which should be allowed to deter potential readers – you would be missing a glorious novel.”

A chapter from this novel, under the title ‘Hannah Bauman’, was selected for the Chanukah 2021 edition of the Canadian literary website, www.jewishfiction.net.

“Death is not an event, it is a process. We see only two states – life and death, but in fact there is life, dying and death, where life and death are states but dying is the process from one to the other. Some are fortunate to go through that process quickly and relatively painlessly, but for most of us the sad fact is we are condemned to go through it slowly and painfully.

The dying man is alive but has no expectation of life. He is preparing to die, but he must live for an unknowable time as he does that. He fears death but he may come to fear life more, and yet even so he fears death still. Man is the only animal, as far as we know, that fears death, perhaps because he is the only animal that comprehends life.”

This is the imagined story of one such man.

“WHY DO YOU HATE ISRAEL?”

With a foreword by Professor Alan Dershowitz,
author of The Case for Israel

IN THEIR OWN WORDS, WHY PEOPLE HATE ISRAEL, AND JEWS

Having won its shooting wars, Israel now finds itself in a war it doesn’t understand, a war it is in grave danger of losing. From its beginning as a plucky little country, it has become, in the court of international public opinion, a monster.

Tropes such as ‘occupation’ and ‘illegal settlements’ have become accepted as fact. ‘Apartheid’ is a weaponised word put into the mouths of people who don’t know what it means by people who do. People now believe ‘Palestine’ was a country ‘colonised’ by European Jews.

Anti-Zionism is now the socially-acceptable form of anti-Semitism. This book is a wake-up call, a plea to see the danger we are in. Israel’s missile shields cannot protect it from propaganda and hatred.

A brilliant book

An eye-opening important book that everyone should read.

A clear, concise guide through the confusing language and concepts of Israeli haters

For many people trying to unravel the Israel-Palestinian situation, both currently & historically, this book will be of immense value. For those more versed in the complications within that conflict, the book provides a clear & unambiguous explanation for many of the emotive terms & words that are carelessly thrown about by those who have decided that Israel is to blame for everything, before they know any facts

However, the author does not ignore critics of Israel, rather he seeks them out & poses questions directly to them in person & via correspondence in an effort to understand why they “hate” Israel. For me, this section was just as educational as the author’s explanations of the various weaponized words. The extent to which critics have no, very little or a distorted knowledge of the history of the region was astonishing

Jewish critics of Israel are also subjected to some scrutiny & their views are revealed to be just as lopsided as those of non Jews, in so far as their knowledge & analysis of events is concerned.

At a time when anti-Israel sentiment is becoming almost indistinguishable from antisemitism across the world, it is vital that as accurate as possible a picture of the real, true situations in Israel are widely disseminated to counter the negative lies & propaganda. This book is a primer for those starting out, a concise reference for the more experienced & a platform for the accurate portrayal of issues that are often mentioned but rarely defined in the Worlds media. I cannot recommend the book highly enough.

Essential reading

An outstanding book that comments on the age-old problem of antisemitism. Mr Brynin, from the start, clearly defines antisemitism as Jew hate, it is in the title. This work dispels many of the negative myths, tropes and memes that continues to this day about Jewish people. It also puts into context the Israel/Palestine conflict and unpacks the many lies & mistruths and people’s misconceptions propagated by Israel’s enemies. Written to the point, easy to understand and opens the door to taking a fresh look at the subject. A must-have for those who are studying antisemitism or are curious and want a better understanding of the topic and an ideal complement to Dershowitz’s “The Case for Israel” & Dr Michael Harris’s “Winning the Debate with an Israel Hater”.

“The Palestinians and their Arab allies have never accepted the existence of a Jewish nation in the Middle East.

They could not defeat Israel in war, so they created a new strategy, to isolate it from the support of the international community, particularly the United States, in an information war.

This is a war everyone who cares about the security and the future of Israel can get involved in.”

JUST BUY IT!

This book is a great addition to any bookshelf. I spend my time fighting the ignorance that surrounds anti-Israel positions. And sometimes you need to cut through all the lies and the noise with the facts.

Far too many people are oblivious to the history – to the causes of the conflict – to the most basic of issues and then build their false positions on top of these fallacies. This book lays out the true nature and history of the conflict with an easy, light and conversational style. It can arm you with the knowledge you need not to fall into traps as well as provide you with much of what you need to know to be able to fight back – all in one easy to read package. Well worth the purchase.

On a personal note I found it covered each of the topics it addresses well – never overloading the reader with too much detail – and yet providing each of the pillars of knowledge needed to see through all the lies that pervade discussion of the conflict. For people who are just dipping their toes in – or for those that know some things but are unsure of the solid ground – this book is probably one of the best options for them.
